Improving Your Posture For A Healthy Back

Your posture, be it good or bad, can greatly affect how your back feels. Perhaps mother was right when she used to remind you to sit up straight.

Many people don’t realize how much control we really have over our backs. But our everyday bad habits and poor posture can lead to serious lower back pain, upper back & neck pain

Often, it’s as simple as a few little changes in how we sit, walk, and stand that can ease our back and neck pain. You don’t have to suffer.

Here are a few ways that you can improve your posture for a healthy and pain-free back.

Sit And Stand Up Straight

The very act of sitting up straight brings your back into better alignment and helps to pull your tummy in and your shoulders straight. You’ll find yourself standing straighter and sitting more upright.

In short, don’t slouch. Instead, try to sit and stand straighter. This may take some practice and you may have to remind yourself to do it until you get the hang of it. Old habits can die hard, and slouching can be a hard habit to break.

Clothing

Many people wear clothing that doesn’t fit properly. A good example for women is bras. An improperly fitted bra can cause a lot of discomfort to the area of the breasts and the way that the back carries them.

Strive to find the right fit. Not too tight, not too loose. Make sure that the cup size is adequate as well. As for other clothing items, avoid shirts that are too tight across the shoulders and back.

If after you’ve been dressed for about an hour and you’re still in pain, try something less constricting.

Footwear

If your footwear is inadequate, you may also find that you have back pain. Your footwear (boots, shoes, sandals, etc.) should offer your feet some support. So opt for good arch support.

If you’re on your feet while you’re at work, opt for some cushioned insoles and if possible, get a cushioned mat to stand on while you’re working. Your feet support your entire body so it’s important to pay attention to the kind of footwear you’re wearing.

Make sure that it’s supportive and that the arch supports can offer your arches plenty of cushioned comfort.
